I am Stephanie Artuso

Artist, Photographer and Mother, living, working and creating on Gabriola Island, BC, the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

My photography work is shaped by observation, sentiment and a deep curiosity about the people and stories I am invited to document.

Sitting at the kitchen table with my Dad and his guitar, digging through the fabric scraps of my Mom’s sewing room, and spending hours fully immersed in my parents’photo albums shaped my relationship with art and creativity. In spending time old photographs I saw the world with an awareness of seasons passing, and a reverence for human relationships.

Across writing, painting, clay, textiles and photography, I always return to the same themes: how people relate to themselves and each other, and the way stories become part of what we leave behind.
